Planet: Kreton
11/9/2016 6pm

The reason she was on the the ship was simple; she’d asked.

Two days till Wally’s 21st birthday and the last thing Artemis wanted to be was on Earth sitting alone (or with overly concerned friends) waiting for the clock to tick over. She knew that it would be...bad, to say the least. Nearly four months after his death and the wound was still raw, she’d moved out of their condo, left Palo Alto, retried as ‘Artemis’ and the ghost still haunted her.

The drive to get away had lead her to Black Canary, asking her for a mission, something to take her off planet; while Artemis had been calm, she’d seen the realization in the other womans eyes, darkening with the remainder of grief. The brief was simple at the face of it, Green Lantern needed two League members to pose as a couple and interrupt a a buy, the item was a piece of Reach Tech that supposedly had DNA from a few of the League/Team who’d been captured. The problem was Lanterns were forbidden from entering that particular planet, and the buyer (and seller) were unknown, all that he had was a name ‘Jakar’ and a code ‘Primus’, the retreat was suppose to last two weeks with they buy happening anytime in there. She and her partner were intended to pose as a married couple, gain entry to the grounds as part of the couples event, find the seller and retrieve the item from him or whoever bought it.

‘Simple.’

Except for the part where she was being paired with someone from the League to play happy couples with. Even though she knew it was a slim chance she really hoped it was Dick, at least she and he knew eachother well enough to play off any necessary affection without it getting awkward. And the part where she had to unmask for whoever it was; her identity wasn’t as closely a guarded secret as for some, and many Leagues already knew her, but it was still not an easy thing.

Good news was that she was meeting the man on planet, he’d apparently been the one that got the invitations for the event, he was scheduled to meet her at the station they had just docked onto for last minute information and to go down to the planet together and start their cover.

Long blonde hair pulled into a tight ponytail, and wearing what GL had sworn was the local garb for a well off woman(a off the shoulder green sheath dress accented with heavy golden belt and bracelets.) Artemis waited impatiently for her partner to appear.

I am vengeance. I am the night,
"I made a promise on the grave of my parents that I would rid this city of the evil that took their lives. By day, I am Bruce Wayne, billionaire philanthropist. At night, criminals, a cowardly and superstitious lot, call me... Batman."
The planet Kreton wasn’t exactly a paradise.

An earth-like planet, the world was one dominated by massive city-states separated by regions of dangerous and impenetrable jungles. The location of the world, along with a tendency for the government officials to look the other way when “tariffs” were paid in a timely manner made Kreton a prime location for illicit activities. The briefing from The Green Lantern Corps had been complete enough that the picture of their destination reminded him of Gotham; on a larger and more exotic scale of course.

It sounded like a perfect place for Batman and Tigress to infiltrate and get to the bottom of the mystery behind the sale of a very dangerous piece of Reach Tech. If the rumors were to be believed, and there was no reason for him to not believe them, the tech being sold would compromise not just himself but the other members of the League that had been captured and forced to attack the planet Rimbor. With only a name and code word to go with, he had half-expected Black Canary, who possessed her own keen detective ability, to take up the assignment with him. That being said, he was only slightly surprised to learn that he was partnering up with the young archer for this one.

Not that he was concerned about that. Artemis had proved to be a more than capable undercover operative when she, along with Aqualad infiltrated the Light. Cutting her teeth in battle with the Team, she proved to be able to handle herself if things got dangerous and her ability as a team player improved greatly since her first days of being a hero.

He’d actually hoped that she would have been able to stick with the life that she had begun to build with Wally but, after his death, it had become clear that she needed the work to keep going. While he might have been concerned about her mental state, Canary had assured him that Tigress was fit for duty.

Resisting the urge to try and adjust the high collar of his jacket, apparently all cultures preferred nearly stifling formal attire, he moved through the crowd keeping an eye out for anything unusual. Of course, there was a lot of that going around as more than a dozen different near-human looking species were moving through the station. Thankfully, they’d both been able to book passage on one of the higher class vessels that brought them into city; they were supposed to be wealthy enough to purchase the highly illegal tech so that wasn’t exactly a surprise. The crowd wasn’t as heavy and there was less of chance of running into trouble right off the bat.

The less fortunate part was that, if they were being observed, they were, he’d already marked three different individuals watching him intently, it would be difficult for them to do much in the line of scouting the city.

With a shrug, he dismissed the thought. They could figure that out when they got to the quarters that they’d been assigned to. He expected that they would have to counter any surveillance measures hidden within their suites anyway so he had no worries that they could give their watchers the slip without too much difficulty.

He finally spied Tigress as she waited with well-disguised impatience. He grinned briefly before a genuine smile spread across his features. Another mask perhaps but there was no way anyone would be able to see anything other than a man who was happy to see his beautiful young wife after a long period of separation…

“Mrs. Teelk,” he began in a friendly voice as he moved through the crowd and approached her. “Are you a sight for sore eyes!” He finished the thought with a warm embrace and a chaste kiss on her cheek using the closeness to whisper a warning that they were already being watched. To those watching, it looked innocent enough; like a man unused to public displays of affection perhaps.

He broke into what would pass of as normal conversation as he subtly marked their watchers for her. He also signaled for a porter to take her things before offering her his arm and starting lead her towards the ride that had been arraigned to take them to where they were going to be housed for the duration of the assignment. While the driver seemed suspicious at first blush, Green Lantern had spoken for the man, a former soldier who had been embedded on the planet for more than a decade. He was apparently beyond reproach.

“How was your flight?” The question held a double meaning, while it would help keep their watchers believing that they were a wealthy couple, it was also an attempt to check to see if she was alright. It wasn’t every day that they traveled through the stars and, if he remembered correctly, this was her first interstellar trip.

While a native of Gotham, Artemis would admit to not paying much attention to the news, especially the social/business side; which meant that while there was a vague familiarity to the man whispering in her ear, yet there was no immediate connection to ‘Bruce Wayne’.

Artemis attributed the slight mental itch to seeing him around the Watch Tower or on another mission, Black Canary hadn’t designed to tell her what her partner’s identity was in or out of costume, and assumed the he was under the same handicap. How ever considering the kiss and whispered warning in her ear it was clear that he at least knew what she looked like. “Hello darling.” And great she STILL had no idea who this was in or out of the mask. “I hope I didn’t keep you waiting.” It was hard to fake a semi sincere loving look up at the stranger.

Wrapping an arm around his waist Artemis resigned herself to the role of trophy wife/armcandy with a painted on smile, it would take some adjustment for her to fall into the role, it wasn’t natural to her own personality.

Grey eyes flicked casually around as he marked their watchers, snuggling into his side more securely to disguise the action, “Oh you know, long. And I missed you.” Artemis went up to her toes to kiss his cheek, her tone turning sultry, had to sell their relationship after all. “Not use to so many hours alone.” It was her first out of system trip, while she’d been insystem on missions before it was her first long distance journey out of her home system.

Taking his hand as they moved into the vehicle Artemis turned her attention to the driver, recognizing him from GL’s briefing, raising a delicately arched eyebrow at her ‘husband’, questioning wordlessly if he could still be trusted. At his confirmation the blonde archer relaxed somewhat. “Well ‘Mr. Teelk’ have you had any leads?” If her schedule was right they had a night before the conference was to begin, though there might be a mixer that evening.
